Active in Italy between mid-70s and early 80s, GREG represented a daring attempt to overthrow conventional musical canons by researching dream-like and surreal atmospheres through absolute improvisation. This was usual practice in jazz, but at the time not yet as common in rock oriented ensembles. The band used to appear without notice at cultural or political events, building its “Live Inventions on the Spot and off the Mood” in order to create the utmost of surprise. Some of their musical visions were recently resurrected from old tapes and associated with film titles suggested from memories of the band, accomplishing an experimental process opposite to what is usually carried out when it comes to matching music with pictures. |
